Might be helpful to assess whether pushback stems from perception of an arrogant “you’re wrong” and “I’m right” framing. Gender certainly plays a role. @zeynep might communicate differently and ruffle feathers less than you, @NateSilver538 and @DouthatNYT.

Interesting. I don't know that you have a conciliatory tone. What provokes a "circle the wagons" reaction and does that derail the discourse or does it benefit the discourse? Does gender play a role? Does tone? Or is it inevitable and insignificant?

Or is it personality driven -- e.g. Nate seems rude and arrogant and he pisses people off.
