"While we know that the single dose can protect against disease" seems like a strong statement - these were post hoc analyses, right? Your piece doesn't help any reader understand why post hoc analyses are problematic.
Plus, there will be people who miss the second dose anyway, and there will need to be an effort to track them down. Just saying "please don't miss your dose" won't work; these things need resources. With a trial, we can make a smarter decision on that.

I still feel like the immunology in the Moderna trial is telling us that the single dose may not work. Also plenty of childhood vaccine schedules require 2 doses w/o creating many issues. But I get where you’re coming from and it’s interesting pitch.
