Did you try and fail to to convince your elderly relatives to avoid holiday gatherings? I have a suggestion. Propose waiting until March. Things are grim now so it's a horrid time to get sick but the US could experience a dramatic turnaround. Hope is real. https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2020/12/wait-until-march/617410/ …pic.twitter.com/RE8QhETaDd

Yesterday, we broke terrible record after terrible record. Most deaths. Most hospitalized. Hospitals are under strain, healthcare workers exhausted. Cases are up. But the vaccine news is better than we'd hoped for and it's here. Never been a stronger case to wait.. just a bit.

Just a little aside. Twitter is recommending people to follow and "COVID-19", as a topic. Who is recommended? A most sensationalist, alarmist tweeter who gets a lot of attention but is not so good on accuracy or balanced explanations. I'm sure his engagement numbers are up!

It's like this all over now. Social, traditional... Yesterday, the NYT sent a push alert for a *single* allergic reaction to the vaccine. There is doomsaying pundits who never change their message in response to evidence on one side, and the dismissive denialists on the other.

Of course people are tired and confused. The failure to explain what's going on is profound and multi-level. We needed level-headed, realistic, nuanced and communication that changed as things changed from the start and we did not really get that.

I've been hearing exactly this. That people get close to convincing their family to postpone gathering now, but the roadblock is they're not sure if they will all have time off. What if @JoeBiden proposed a Federal holiday—say around Easter in early April?https://twitter.com/rich1/status/1339570120830685184 …

On this, @JoeBiden could have great impact today. One reason families gather for the holidays is people get the week off work and school. Biden could promise a week-long national holiday this summer as incentive for postponing family gatherings (a marshmallow for those who wait).

+1 . Other headline would be “99.9998% of vaccines successfully administered to date with no adverse reactions”

My mom couldn't take the flu vaccine because she was allergic to something in the base. I am allergic to two antibiotics. Doesn't mean these things are unsafe for others. The science is behind these vaccines. Do better, @nytimes .

Speaking of doomsdayers did you know if you’re under 50 you have around same chance of dying from Covid as sunstroke whatever that is? Yet we’ve ruined people’s lives for it. Not sure why over 50 couldn’t quarantine and rest continue our daily livespic.twitter.com/lGvnAoDJIn

Holidays are unAmerican. .@LindseyGrahamSC and .@senatemajldr never took a holiday in their lives. They’ve been working since infancy when they had to suck hard at the teat of the sow feeding them to ensure not even a drop of milk remained for a fellow sibling.
