Yesterday, we broke terrible record after terrible record. Most deaths. Most hospitalized. Hospitals are under strain, healthcare workers exhausted. Cases are up. But the vaccine news is better than we'd hoped for and it's here. Never been a stronger case to wait.. just a bit.

Just a little aside. Twitter is recommending people to follow and "COVID-19", as a topic. Who is recommended? A most sensationalist, alarmist tweeter who gets a lot of attention but is not so good on accuracy or balanced explanations. I'm sure his engagement numbers are up!

It's like this all over now. Social, traditional... Yesterday, the NYT sent a push alert for a *single* allergic reaction to the vaccine. There is doomsaying pundits who never change their message in response to evidence on one side, and the dismissive denialists on the other.

Of course people are tired and confused. The failure to explain what's going on is profound and multi-level. We needed level-headed, realistic, nuanced and communication that changed as things changed from the start and we did not really get that.
