Geeky question, is there an explanation for why the Moderna vaccine is stable longer than the Pfizer one in terms of cold storage requirements since they're both mRNA? Or is it just that Moderna tested for longer storage times and Pfizer didn't? Links to long papers welcome!

Difference may be the proprietary method/formula Moderna has for its lipid nanoparticles. I don't know the answer but if it's possible to license/share/apply this technology to the Pfizer vaccine, it could make a huge difference to who will get vaccinated.https://twitter.com/Trumpery45/status/1339336789270568960 …

Pfizer distribution is going to be much harder and more costly because of its (relatively extreme) refrigeration requirements and shorter shelf-life. This hinders immunization outside hospitals in the US, and makes it much harder in poorer countries. Just looking to learn why/if.

there is a proprietary piece of the research that Moderna and Fauci's Institute have developed that stabilizes the enzymes that lead to the decay....

BioNTech CEO said they are nowadays testing warmer(less colder:)) temps for their vaccine. So I believe this could be a testing bias

still studying patterns I see! 😉 Thanks for asking this question on Twitter. Absolutely not even close to a thing I know about enough to even ask this question, so I feel smarter just knowing the question.....

THANK YOU for asking. It's really the elephant in the vaccination room, but somehow, it is completely overlooked in a media narrative that seems entrenched in horse-race coverage. It makes a huge difference for any vaccination campaign outside of urban centres.

As I understand it, Moderna developed a new lipid nanoparticle that was much stronger than the previous state of the art https://scholar.google.com/scholar?q=moderna+lipid+nanoparticles+covid&hl=en&as_sdt=0&as_vis=1&oi=scholart#d=gs_qabs&u=%23p%3DGuS3LLrmT7MJ …

Right, I'm wondering why/if there isn't a way to license or apply this to Pfizer as well? The difference isn't marginal; will likely have huge impact on whether high-risk groups (outside of hospitals) can be vaccinated widely and quickly.

Why is there not a single dose vaccine? Doubling the dose seems counter productive and worth waiting for. This whole process is completely f_cked up in the name of political expediency.

        Many vaccines require multiple doses.
