Also, why are we leapfrogging over the much more immediate (and durable) need to encourage masking, distancing, and avoidance of indoor congregation?

1/ If no tests were carried out to determine if vaccines produce sterilizing immunity, we should first of all transparently inform about it, and secondly, plan for maintaining masks & distancing, as vaccinated that contract SARS-COV-2 can still be carriers and transmit the virus.

If measures don't change, then there's no point in taking the vaccine except for the non-elders. What should they do? Put up a phase 4 where the chance of infection is measured when it wasn't in phase 3, preferably among health workers.

2/ Failure to inform about this crucial characteristic of vaccines announced and in the pipeline, will inevitably foster more distrust, skepticism and opposition to vaccination, and create the additional risk of people that are vaccinated stop wearing masks & distancing.

3/Part of a consistent information campaign on the vaccines & vaccination —crucial for the effort to be effective— is being especially clear about the caveat of vaccines not producing sterilizing immunity, and the need to understand this means protective measures can't be lifted.
