A lot of the experts I trust the most to address these complex issues haven’t been given the same amount of media attention as others, & most have avoided sticking their necks out into this discourse on Twitter due to the ways in which it often plays out.

I wrote a single article on ventilation and still constantly contacted by desperate people whose workplace guidance has huge emphasis on deep cleaning (with bleach! indoors! without ventilating it out!) but either no or vague advice on ventilation. We didn't get here by accident.
-
So Twitter help aside, people needed simple, actionable guidelines and proper intuition about transmission. In my view, some concerns here about the word aerosol/airborne/analogies may apply to healthcare settings but were not a problem with public discussion.

Wow, what an indictment, smh. Masks indoors is one of the weakest links I identified early on when answering questions from the public. I changed my own behavior after hearing from aerosol experts on Twitter

Yeah. The tragedy is the messaging need not be complicated. I think there was broad consensus on the risk, and we just needed guidance and consistent wording and a few good analogies. Japan 3Cs type stuff.

Would have been better to word: “unless ventilation is known to be good, wear masks indoors even if separated …”. Then need a way for general public to understand what good ventilation is.
-
Yes!!! The general public has no way to assess ventilation. Perhaps businesses need a rating system to alert customers of ventilation status. C02 monitors?
