The track record of religious organizations in this space in the US isn't great at all. Meanwhile, Canada and Europe (very very secular Europe) have a working solution. There, too, their track record is nowhere near similarly poorish countries which have adopted state-led health care systems. Modern medicine is very compatible with a rational approach, charity not so much because of the universal but well-understood nature of need/practice.
