I realize these restrictions were already eased but... I don't see how any locale can restrict religious service if it has indoor dining or bars open. If anything, the former can be done with masks. That said, it should be noted that singing/choir indoors is especially high-risk.https://twitter.com/stevenmazie/status/1331838731893043201 …

I have zero opinion on the legal part. We have a legitimacy crisis. It's making it harder for us to convince people.https://twitter.com/sanfordmay/status/1332011589747224577 …

And these issues are important at least because of how bad-faith people use them to discredit the entire notion of taking Covid seriously.

Agree on the legitimacy issue. Government in general does not consistently apply the same restrictions, sending a conflicting message.

SCOTUS has a legitimacy crisis too, which is only going to get worse.

Gorsuch mentioned this in his opinion (liquor stores and acupuncture studios are open)

I always stay in my liquor store for 90 minutes to hear the liquor sermon and the liquor choir sing. Then we all exchange the skoal of peace! Fellowship!

Seems to me SCOTUS had no business at all ruling on something that isn't even a state law.

See Roberts’s dissent. That’s pretty much what he wrote: right now plaintiff needs no remedy because the order is no longer in effect, thus the Court should not decide in favor of an unnecessary remedy.

We have a crisis of conflation of scientific risk assessment with personal bias in risk assessment. One protects the community, the other risks the community. In my community it is not the 'elite' per se, they are just the most visible example of this very human failure.

The court decision does not make sense from a public health perspective. The fact that many states have failed to impose adequate restrictions on other activities does not make the decision any more sensible.https://twitter.com/mlipsitch/status/1331977558259331075?s=21 …
