I didn't like the original headline. We don't really know what's going on is the current truth. No doubt a good deal of the spread is socializing. What proportion? Don't know. Nobody does. Contact tracing is overwhelmed by the scale of the surge. So, this:https://twitter.com/CT_Bergstrom/status/1330981829575286784 …

Publishing this right before Thanksgiving is going to result in some readers thinking have an extended family gathering is low risk. It would have been better for the article to have been published next week.

Thanks for the response. It seems that at this point domestically contact tracing is beyond our capacity. Might wide scale testing be a more potent strategy?

This entire country is in denial about the role of workplaces in spreading the virus. Bars/restaurants rightfully get the spotlight for unmasked patrons, but why are so many offices (where people could work from home) open at all?

In British Columbia, where contract tracing has not been overwhelmed, the PHO has identified private gatherings as the main source of community spread.

1/ If small social gatherings are the direct & most substantial cause of the current surge, is irrelevant to the need to put an end to them in order to slow down the surge. If by social gatherings we understand swapping air with other people, restaurants & bars fit the principle.

2/ The test, track & isolate mitigation strategy stands no chance in the current surge, many times larger than actually quantified. A strict 4-6 week long nationwide lockdown —a preventative measure— should never be a last resort, but it's the best option: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/08/07/opinion/coronavirus-lockdown-unemployment-death.html#click=https://t.co/26yNTXylvT …

The deeper truth to be revealed is they won't do the thing to stop it: lockdown and stimulus. We look like a failing if not failed state.
