Why on earth did you write this now? At a minimum, have the decency to do it quietly.

He's making the argument against seeing family for Thanksgiving!

No, he's basically saying those who don't take the risk don't think family is worth it. I can read. I am not shaming him for his family's decision—we all take risks—but nobody forced him to write this, which clearly argues that those who stay home don't care enough about family.

I wonder how many thousands of people will read that and say “You know what? If everyone else is seeing their family, I will too.”?

The 'didn't read the whole article' phenomena works to everyone's benefit here. I thought I was reading a column arguing *against* going home until I reached the end!

that's the real kicker. You can make it ALLLLMOST to the bottom and be like "oh this is a helpful argument against going and seeing family" and then you make it to that final quarter and it's like WHAT THE FUUUUUUUU

I think he was thinking of self-expression, and of defending his choice, not of what the column would influence a reader to believe or do.

Yeah. The whole graphic scrolling overlay thing or whatever they call it encourages people to stop reading halfway through. For the first time ever that type of UX has done some good.

Yep, the final choice is he's seeing his family with the completely inadequate safeguard of keeping kids home for a week beforehand. The grandparents are early 70's and should have many years left and I don't get this choice at all.
