Outdoor dining is better. But do note that this is a greenhouse, not outdoor dining. Excellent option with your pod that you'd otherwise be indoors with. But this setup in Chicago—which also inexplicably closed the vast beaches but not indoor restaurants—is not outdoors dining.pic.twitter.com/uqsrxhZNzk

The article is appropriately titled Americans increasingly, "Have No Idea" where they are catching the virus. Yes, the high community transmission will overwhelm tracing. But we should do a better job communicating the risk! It's October!https://www.nytimes.com/2020/10/31/us/coronavirus-transmission-everywhere.html …

The point of outdoor dining in a pandemic is not to make you colder than you'd be indoors! It's to dilute the aerosols in the air that people emit when they talk or breathe: a higher risk consideration for indoor dining since one cannot wear a mask while eating!

Actually yes, sorry, it's November! Of course. Heh. It's November 2020 and we're still not giving people the right intuition about the relative risks.https://twitter.com/Smile4Chomsky/status/1323693101853020167 …

See this thread. Stuffing people into greenhouses is not a good idea compared to a proper set-up: heat lamps, awnings, open air (as Ferris notes).https://twitter.com/ferrisjabr/status/1323693707535642624 …

Personally, I really don't think we should be describing small tents/bubbles as "excellent options" even for families/pods. Someone could be sick & asymptomatic/not know. Difficult to protect servers. Still need to air out after every use. Too many unneeded risks. Instead..

I am wondering about screened in porches. With heat lamps and air purifiers, strategic fans. We're in MN.

1 door or full screens? Honest answer is to buy a CO2 meter. The higher the number goes, the more of the air you're breathing was breathed *out* by someone else and could contain COVID. /Also, CO2 is generally no bueno. Gas Stoves... hoo boy. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01FYWU2IS/ …

If that’s the riverwalk they’re probably tourists, which likely makes it worse, since they’ll go home.

Increasingly disappointed that no neighborhood restaurant has yet posted a large sign outside: "We've totally reworked our HVAC, and we are now vigorously exhausting to the exterior, and HEPA filtering, both the indoor dining room, and the kitchen, air masses"

Agreed, but I'm a restaurant owner with literally no outdoor space to work with. I'm not alone. We need to be talking about indoor mitigations. The county health inspector came by this week and I asked about ventilation--his response boiled down to: There's nothing we can do.

I would be legitimately curious about the CO2 levels in a full restaurant with heavy ventilation. I still might not *go* because I'm paranoid and living with elders, but "Yeah, we got it down to 600" is not "Welcome to 1600 land" https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01FYWU2IS/ …
