Hindsight is always 20:20. Asian countries had previous experience with outbreaks so the #WearAMask mandate was not a cultural problem. Our next outbreak, and it will happen, will hopefully be easier to contain psychologically. We still need to listen to the experts IMO.https://twitter.com/zeynep/status/1321098760617893890 …

I’d agree - for example Canada also had previous experience with sars but didn’t implement the lessons that should have been learned from that experience while some Asian countries did do so

Case in point: Canada created GPHIN after SARS, but quietly reassigned scientists to other projects. We couldn't keep existing knowledge in an institution longer than a generation. We knew, and chose to turn a blind eye.

CCTV must be a key tool for contact tracing, how big of a factor is the lack of that contribute to our inept contact tracing? How much of our inherent views on freedom/civil liberties "big brother" is an impediment for a virus like this?

I don't think "racism" is a useful term for this ("blinkered arrogance/bumptious ignorance" seem more on mark) but degree to which Euro experts seemed to ignore Asian expertise & poo-poo key Asian advice (Masks!) when Covid began is striking & calls for LOTS of self-reflection.

We seem to have a resistance to learning from other countries. Not just with this pandemic but with lots of things such as transport policy, healthcare, economic policies, etc. We have to make all the same mistakes they made before we can learn the same lessons they learned.
