Cass Sunstein isn't an expert though. The real problem IS experts vs. misinformation, but we treat smart people with no specialized expertise but lots of media access, like Sunstein, Nate Silver, etc. as "experts" when they are just pundits We STILL don't elevate epidemiologistshttps://twitter.com/zeynep/status/1321092983631106049 …

Good piece on how "experts vs. misinformation" isn't the right frame. (Yes, yes, the Harvard law professor who wrote worrying about the pandemic was "excessive fear" and "probability neglect" in February now leads the WHO "Behavioral Insights" committee). https://unherd.com/2020/10/how-the-experts-messed-up-on-covid/ … pic.twitter.com/kW5VZTlYgU

Tons of epidemiologists, in fact almost all of them in the West, were telling us not to wear masks in March and even later, though. That's the problem.

This is directly bc China bought so much PPE from us before our outbreak and we had an extreme shortage in the USA. People weren’t aware of cloth masks and were buying an stock piling high grade masks. They had to do this to try and salvage for hospitals at the time.

In that case why not say "wear cloth masks"?

Yes we did. Experts in Japan and Hong Kong were correct, and based on science.

That's not how science is supposed to work and remember experts in the West called Asians "superstitious" for wearing masks. I read those pieces! In major newspapers.
