They found six new cases in Wuhan so they’re planning to test eleven million people over the next ten days. Neither number is a typo.https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-china-wuhan-idUSKBN22N24F …

So I guess that clears up how to actually lead in testing. https://twitter.com/xinyanyu/status/1260044683125895169 …

Chinese authorities found 12 cases in Qingdao, so they will be testing *nine million* people in about a week. (No typos). They had done the same in Wuhan in May, see thread above. Yes, it's costly but having an uncontrolled epidemic is more costly.https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-54504785 …

In case you didn't see it, here is a follow-up: https://www.npr.org/sections/coronavirus-live-updates/2020/10/16/924382187/city-in-china-tests-10-million-people-after-13-covid-19-cases-are-found … They say they did the 10 million tests in 5 days and every single result came back negative. But they are still having some kind of stay-at-home order and travel restrictions.pic.twitter.com/pEijRrAmYy

Serious question that I don’t know the answer to: Is it really plausible that they did 10 million tests and zero of them came back negative? Or is some skepticism of that claim warranted? I’m not a conspiratorial person but that seems really surprising.

I find it surprising (especially since they had a cluster of 13 cases already known). The testing also was just really fast! Assuming testing is occurring during daytime, this is a rate of 70 tests per second. It would be interesting to hear details on logistics.
