I mean, in the academic literature, this drawing together of the existing literature (although typically at a later stage, admittedly) would be a review article or meta-analysis, which I could see being applicable terminology here?

Except that in this case, the added value is in the stitching together of bits of knowledge scattered not just among studies and publications, but among disciplines and fields of knowledge.
