My current saga. My landlord wants me to sign a new lease that gives me only two hours notice to show the house to potential buyers, upon which I am supposed to vacate the house—and if I don't do that three times, he can evict me. Two hours notice. In the middle of a pandemic.

So
#NCPol question. Anyone in North Carolina regulatory offices want to chat about landlords forcing unsafe showings on tenants? I’ve learned that other states have actual guidelines on this. I’d love to be a test case! Some good out of all this stupidity. https://twitter.com/lenert/status/1313226431724285952 …This Tweet is unavailable.Show this threadThanks. I'm pretty sure if you "salt the tea" just once on this it would never happen again (i.e. allow place to be shown in state of incredible mess) -- which I'm sure he knows, which means the whole thing is probably just a ploy to evict you early, whether to sell or lease to a friend

Why not stay during the showing and just cough a bunch? (Kidding! What a ridiculous set of demands by your landlord!)

That's atrocious. Doesn't your union provide tenancy protection insurance yet?

Ugh. I'm sorry. I dealt with a similar situation a few years ago when there wasn't a pandemic and I'm a lawyer and it was still a huge PITA/time suck.

Yep. I'm not poor, and I have a lawyer and it is a huge PITA/time suck nonetheless. In the middle of a pandemic.

People get in the landlord biz because the prefer to exploit, - it’s ‘smart’. There’s no Negotiation that favors them. There ought to be a fixed # of times he can give you 2 hrs notice, or he can simply do it constantly. Any potential buyers must be legit, proved- paid

But this *is* another aspect of the pandemic, isn't it? The enforced social discrepancy and vultures trying to press a deal out of it.
