To stop transmission, maybe we need to stop narrowly thinking about the what & how (aerosols/droplets/fomites), since we already have agreed on NPIs.
We should think about the when & why instead: overdispersion.

"Deep-Cleaning" has become a cargo cult, reassuring people of safety while actually contributing very little, when wearing masks and avoiding indoor crowds are the messages that should be made. School budgets stressed by cleaning bills, but no purchases of PPE?

I agree there's way too much emphasis on surface disinfection at the expense of other interventions. I've tried to encourage additive risk reduction: adopt as many measures as possible. It's not masks or ventilation or hygiene or distancing...it should not be OR, it must be AND.
