"White House officials also tried to circumvent the C.D.C. in a search for alternate data showing that the pandemic was weakening and posed little danger to children." Fantastic reporting by @MarkMazzettiNYT @noahweiland @SharonLNYThttps://www.nytimes.com/2020/09/28/us/politics/white-house-cdc-coronavirus-schools.html …

I read it in context of what the thinking was in July when these docs were being worked on. In any case, the reporting detailing the meddling is terrific

Look, I get that the stakes are high. But please take the rhetoric down a notch. I'm a reporter. I reported on a paper that left out a key detail, and quoted 4 experts who also didn't know and thought it was fine. And I did a follow-up.

And my point was that Apoorva *did* a follow-up that's being ignored. You should talk to other reporters, not her.

Ok fair enough. But why is the Times continuing to cite the paper and defending doing so? The CDC article misses all the evidence that schools are safe. The Times Covid reporting continues to be a stream of unbalanced, unscientific and often anecdotal fear mongering. Stop.

Then why are you replying to her? The CDC article has its own authors. She also doesn't run the rest of the NYT. This pile-on on a single reporter is not okay—every outlet (mis)reported on that SK paper and as far as I know she's the only one that published a proper follow-up.

Because she retweeted the CDC article in a way that suggested schools are unsafe and defended the decision to cite the SK article in a way that I thought was unpersuasive. And I sent my comment about the Times reporter to all.
