"White House officials also tried to circumvent the C.D.C. in a search for alternate data showing that the pandemic was weakening and posed little danger to children." Fantastic reporting by @MarkMazzettiNYT @noahweiland @SharonLNYThttps://www.nytimes.com/2020/09/28/us/politics/white-house-cdc-coronavirus-schools.html …

I read it in context of what the thinking was in July when these docs were being worked on. In any case, the reporting detailing the meddling is terrific

We should get the science right when objecting to those others meddling in the science. It’s *absolutely* appropriate to separate out under 18 and even 12. Flu mortality is more. MCIS is so little risk that it’s less than car rides. SK story wasn’t that. Come on.

This piece needs at least four corrections on the science side. I don’t doubt the meddling part but you can’t get the science this wrong. Lumping 25 and under is indefensible. Research even separates out 12 & under because that different. Yikes. Honestly. cc @apsmunro @mugecevik

What is the problem with the Times? Are you rooting against poor children? 20% or so of kids have not attended regularly online school for 17 weeks. What are we supposed to do with them? Hold them all back? What medical theory says hurt kids to keep others safe?

I'm not clear on the use of 'meddling,' esp as it applies to Dr Birx. As you point out, breaking out data for schools to age 18 just makes sense. How is it meddling for one of the nation's too ID experts to ask for and present relevant data?

I have a lot of time for @nytimes and some of the coverage of the pandemic has been great But when it comes to children and schools, I cannot escape the impression that its opposition to the Trump administration has irreparably biased the framing of its reporting

I would love someone to explain to me how using the power of the executive branch *to correct an output by an executive agency* = "meddling". Do they not have every right to oversee this, and make sure it aligns with the administrations POV? This would go for ANY administration.
