Dear university event organizers trying to schedule a whole hour to do a "run through" of an hour-long event and to talk about the event and the tech specifics. No, no, no and no. And no, not a subtweet as I emailed the same back, too. 😀Ten minutes max for such prep, folks.

Speaking as someone who formerly worked for an events company– just because you've got your waterfowl in a queue doesn't mean most speakers do. Au contraire. And when *they* blow off the runthrough and have trouble with the tech, *we're* the ones who got the blame.

Ditto. Las Vegas convention tech & stagehand. No comparison between cue-cue and run through.

Last big musical I did the lighting run through for a 2hr, 200cue Show was 20mins with changes. Someone really wanted lunch that day.

What needs to be said before an event can be said in email. Period.

I produce online CLE events for lawyers, and I feel your pain! 🙃 If all presenters were as comfortable as you are with the basic communications platforms and protocols, we could easily run these "tech rehearsals" in 10 minutes or less. But that's rarely the case, sad to say.

It’s not a tech rehearsal if it is ‘run’ without all elements and cue points. Otherwise don’t even bother & don’t you dare blame the production staff for failures or event not meeting expectations.

How about filling in a quiz ahead of time that allows you to skip the run through: Do you know where your mute button is? Do you know how to determine if you are on mute? Do you know how many sentences you can say in 15 minutes?

Cue to cue or actual run through. Run through means all elements in real time. Cue to cue can be a speed through (as long as all cue points are hit).

Counterargument: They should schedule adequate time for tech rehearsal, prep, etc. They should also pay accordingly.
