I’ll say it again: the medical facts about the coronavirus were already known in February. Even if Woodward had published, the only news is that Trump was made aware of it. I doubt it would have moved the needle on anything.https://twitter.com/zeynep/status/1303747775037923331 …

I really wonder if people forgot? At the end of February, I was begging people to stop traveling and having conferences and was told that I was paranoid and panicky by friends! February had top media op-eds saying we should continue to travel, what about the flu, etc.

Boston Biogen conference would have been cancelled https://www.bostonglobe.com/2020/03/11/nation/how-biogen-leadership-conference-boston-spread-coronavirus/ …

I understand but respectfully disagree. Even if Woodward had reported what Trump told him in February, the lack of reported cases at the time would have still led it to be a one-day news cycle at best. Thinking it would have changed anything is hindsight bias.

The better point is if *Trump* had emphasized that it was known to be airborne, that communication *from the president* might have changed conduct and saved lives.

I think you're right. 'Twill be some time before this is sorted out, but, from all appearances, this is the "Nixon Knew!" moment.

I, personally, was quite worried in February, but largely because I was following you on this site.

This! I went back & checked an email I wrote to my boss--it was Feb--letting her know I was instituting PSA's for students on good practices in spite of not yet having guidance abt it, because to me it looked like what it was--what it *is*, even before they officially said it.

I wrote 1st piece on bldgs+airborne in late Jan. Major US paper wouldn't accept b/c skeptical. Published instead in
@FT early Feb (FT understood early b/c int'l focus) Couldn't land similar in US til mid-March Was major hesitancy in US to acknowledge what was actually happening -
We still don't have updated CDC guidelines. I'm getting emails from school teachers everyday asking for guidance on ventilation! It's September. (I send them your stuff!). I don't know the counterfactual result, but the importance of the information to the public seems clear.

If Trump had emphasized it, the other side would never believe it.
