I don’t understand this insistence to abandon children. Some places can open now. Some in a bit. As conditions allow. The point is we should try as hard as we can.

It's offensive to suggest that those of us who see real public health concerns are "abandoning children". In some locales/states, it may be perfectly safe to open up. FL is NOT one of them. Obviously we all agree we must try.

FL's rates of testing have dropped, and we were never really doing enough. We're at 12% + (per Johns Hopkins). Mask mandates are weak & not enforced, and there should be no shame in a teacher or staffer feeling concerned about a possibly leathal virus.
