As a political scientist, one reason I might think that attending to disability might be strategically (not just normatively) valuable is its potential to bridge across SES-defined interests.

Yes, agree. Special education kids are suffering immensely, and they should be among the first to be triaged back into solutions, even if imperfect ones. I've been hearing arguments about how X or Y wouldn't be great in some imperfect system—as it that's the concern.
