A colleague asked about these filters. This is the university's response: “Facilities Services will not install any HEPA filters in the building’s HVAC systems, as they are not designed to accept HEPA filters.”
For those, the building ones, it should be MERV-13 or higher. They should just give us the specs and the explanation. Not have us ask for it. HEPA is for the portable, for consumers.
Right - the Blueairs are just HEPA - no ionization or UV or anything. They performed best in Consumer Reports and were Wirecutter's top pick for larger rooms.
