I had follow-up hand surgery to a past flexor tendon injury ~ten days ago (long story) (and yes I've been typing through it) but... Someone write the history of medical tape, and I'll preorder the book.😀 The steri-strip, the self-adherent coban, the micropore. Amazing tech tbh.

Ever tried speech recognition instead of typing?

Doesn't work for me. I have a two-month non-writing period from the first surgery because of that (wasn't allowed to type, never managed to make speech recognition work for writing. It worked but I couldn't write.) This time, was allowed to type so just bled through the bandages.

I get it. My hands hurt like fuck but voice recognition at most helps me dictate notes or navigate computer. absolutely can't write with it. I am enjoying having one of those tenting keyboards and a vertical mouse. Much less pain. I am terrified of surgery :/

Yeah, my brain needs typing, apparently. I really tried; I write as part of my job. Basically had to stop for months. Very frustrating.

A friend of mine, a patent attorney, was similarly forced to stop typing for an extended period back & he eventually worked out how to use the old Dragon Dictate. He had to learn how to “type speak” which is different to regular talking.

Truth. I know a guy who wrote computer code that way for about 2 years. But he knew recovery was going to be a years-long process if ever. I think he would have just taken two weeks off and gone to Burning Man if he hadn’t known that.
