19/ community guidelines, all support WHO, CDC guidance, stop arguing in press, work together to tackle critical interdisciplinary problems? I believe (perhaps naively) that would be a little closer if we all agree to about “aerosol transmission” & stop saying “it is airborne”

The only way out of these dilemmas (and they are that, right now, with no perfect solution), imho is to step up the depth of the communication. Make the science explainable without simplifying it, and trust people to be motivated partners who can get the nuance. That's all I got.

@zeynep is right on with the "it's airborne!" scene from Outbreak. As ridiculous as that movie was, that is what people think. I don't think clarifying to people that an enclosed space is different from a building's HVAC system is an insurmountable communication challenge. -
I've stopped saying "6 feet" as a hard and fast rule and tried to emphasize the additive nature of risk reduction, including avoiding high-risk situations altogether. If that can't be avoided, then take as many other risk reduction measures as possible.
