I find this position compelling but would like to know if others do, as it is a low-data zone. What do others think? tl;dr: Surfaces are not a major source of transmission. @DKThomp writes: https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2020/07/scourge-hygiene-theater/614599/?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=share …

Put another way: where are we on the continuum between absence of evidence and evidence of absence for the role of surface transmission of SARS-CoV-2?

February me: "Absence of evidence isn't a strong signal, super careful with my hands while shopping, boxes wait in the sun for an hour." July me: "After six months, absence of evidence is a strong signal, hand-sanitize once after shopping and bring the box in and wash my hands."

I think there’s absence of evidence in terms of powering the epidemic via superspreading events. But that doesn’t mean some people don’t get sick. Many cases have unknown origin. A friend’s family got sick (most plausibly) via fomite. Are there no proven cases?

In case you’re curious, here’s the friend’s story (shared publicly). They had been isolating 100% at home since early March (5th?). Kid sick ~March 7, husband sick ~March 14th, she got symptoms April 18th. Seems like fomite spread in house would be most likely given timeframes.pic.twitter.com/3WOH1otbH5
