How modern misinformation works. Notice how the abstract is cut off. (I put part back in). The study says for health-care workers, the usual disposable surgical masks were better than cloth masks changed only once a day. Duh. It's not a comparison to *no masks*. But there's more! https://twitter.com/AlexBerenson/status/1280966807956992002 …pic.twitter.com/RUf54QhcVO

But look the misinformation has gone viral! And how many will read the paper to see what the study actually says? Very few. How many people are going to do research and learn that *the lead author* of that very study is loudly on the record recommending cloth masks this pandemic?pic.twitter.com/wOojtvLang

The misinformer goes on with "cloth masks allow viral particles in." More duh. Masks in community are for *source control* to stop droplets from going *out.* Of course health-care workers need higher levels of protection to stop pathogens from coming *in*.pic.twitter.com/q84EibCJ2k

So they can't stop them from going out but not in? That doesn't make sense and the study doesn't say what your misinformation tweets say it says.

Yes, actually. Droplets evaporate and becomes smaller, and it is harder to keep those tiny things from coming in. Think of stopping water going out of hose versus stopping a mist going into your nose. The physics of in vs. out are different.https://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2020/04/dont-wear-mask-yourself/610336/ …

That's a very over simplification of what's happening here. So you're saying all droplets leaving the mouth are small and don't evaporate. Pretty clear what the study shows here.pic.twitter.com/Tbv7guWf5I

No, they are large leaving your mouth and evaporate and become smaller which is harder to keep out. Easier to keep large particles in; very hard relatively to keep small particles coming in. Stanford experts say when to ppl are wearing masks viral particles can still travel 5 feet away from the ppl wearing the masks. Again you're misrepresenting the study & the results.pic.twitter.com/2qmnf9m6zq

Please read what you just tweeted. It's a pretty clear explanation, cloth masks are used for source control and are much better than no masks. I cannot help you read better!

It also says "well constructed", "well fitted" masks. What % of the general pop is wearing masks that fit those qualifications? So a well constructed, well fitted masks, which most ppl aren't wearing, still admits viral particles up to 5 feet out of the mask. 🤔

You're still not understanding the source control part and the comparison to *no masks*. I provided many links in the thread, and you have your own link you tweeted out. Good luck reading!
