I also don't like unjustified scapegoating and, yes, of course pandemics have their fog of war. But, also, I spent months trying to counter claims by experts that masks were *actively* harmful or would engender false sense of security—both with no evidentiary or logical basis.

I know the more nuanced analyses get drowned out by the more sensationalist side, but there is absolutely a loss of trust to address. Unfair, again, perhaps to put it on shoulders of the more public public health experts, but who else? That's where we are.
