As with WHO. An essential organization we must defend, but fix because it's too vulnerable to big state pressures (China or US). Whenever I say this, some people say but that helps Trump dismantle it! In my view, letting him be the only WHO critic is what helps him dismantle it.

I think you're right. WHO needs somehow to become more independent, a revision of the charter might be needed but seems like that opens up lots of opportunity for mischief.

Yes, the mask question to me was always, it can't hurt, so why not recommend. That being said, I tried for weeks and weeks to get the "blue" masks to no avail and then bought bandannas...

Yes, we don't have a situation like Taiwan where government ramped up production and rationed. That said, I think public health experts speaking up on how the harms arguments made no sense would have helped. Right now, anti-maskers are marshalling those articles/tweets. +

Yep - the idea that "clear evidence" about the usefulness (let alone the lack of harmfulness) of masks only emerged after the Surgeon General and Fauci came out against them is just a myth people have constructed to justify what people were saying in Feb. and March.

The evidence is equivocal, but who cares? What's the down side of wearing masks? You don't need perfect proof when the opportunity costs of wearing them are so low.
