So, this. We are six months in. We have many papers and cases and studies. Neither spacing nor hand-sanitizer will cut it for being safely indoors—especially if people are talking and/or are unmasked. Also, hi, beaches aren't leading to big outbreaks.https://twitter.com/AstroKatie/status/1276919877803151365 …

The line of people to get inside didn’t seem to be wearing masks or keeping a 6-foot distance https://twitter.com/phil_lewis_/status/1275409775178768385?s=21 …https://twitter.com/Phil_Lewis_/status/1275409775178768385 …

Until there is a vaccine I will only dine outdoors at restaurants. At this point, all states SHOULD eliminate indoor dining. They won’t, but they should.
-
You think outdoor dining is safe? I get nervous if I'm within 30 feet of someone without a mask on.

https://medium.com/@codecodekoen/covid-19-superspreading-events-database-4c0a7aa2342b … (the rarity of outdoor transmission, as well as the ocurence of indoor transmission even when social distancing guidelines are followed would both be pretty easily explainable if transmission occurs primarily through aerosols, not large droplets)
-
I think if that were the case then a lot more HCW would be getting sick. But they aren’t, at least in our institution where we were inundated with COVID in April.

Please read to the end of the thread.
@JeremyKonyndyk 1st tweet badly mis-characterizes the situation. This outbreak provides no data that indoor gatherings with spacing leads to high transmission risk. -
There are enough examples, though.

In my province our two largest cities had protests several weeks ago, each with several thousand people. Large majority wore masks. No cases of COVID-19 associated with the protests.

Thr idea of 3Cs in Japan seems more and more sensiblehttps://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2020/06/27/national/japanese-cluster-study-3cs-warning-coronavirus/ …
-
I've been pointing this out for months. New cases reported are usually because of the 3Cs, workers at bars and clubs, people who dined with friends, etc.
