Not to sure about this. Plenty of beaches are packed with people, literally waves pushing people into one another. Seems like the risk is actually quite high--especially since you do not see masks on these people (not to mention one does not enter water with a mask).https://twitter.com/zeynep/status/1276587493316595712 …

It's not about masks in beaches actually. It's all about crowded..Like in UK 2 days ago.

Yes people should not be packed but "packed" in a beach isn't really packed. It's outdoors, so the virus is diluted by open air and subject to sunlight. And when are you closer than 1m to a stranger for 15 minutes on a beach? We've had packed beaches for months & no big outbreak.

Yes, no one talked about a mask, but I cannot imagine that beaches in the UK and California are safe. I am not sure where you are and of course beaches are safe like parks in that sense. But parks too seem borderline at times in NYC. This pic from UK speaks volumes.pic.twitter.com/mzwH62zAtK

Actually, let's see in three weeks. There have been many many such pictures over the past months with no spikes. Look at how much air there is over those people and do you really see anyone packed closer than 1m? It's very hard to get that close to a stranger in a bathing suit.

Besides, close the beaches and the pools bc of fears of overcrowding this summer and people are gonna start swimming in places they really shouldn’t be.

At the beginning of the lockdown in UK they withdrew lifeguards in SW to discourage people from going to the beach, and then several people drowned

Oh that is terrible.

Beaches are one of the least risky environments. Indoor bars and restaurants. House parties. Indoor gatherings where unmasked people talk. Not beaches.
