Sympathy is different than respecting basic rights and minimal respect to people, though. Haven't read enough to have sympathy or not, read enough to see that there is no immediate danger to anyone's life, hence not justified to print his name without his consent.

Having read the blog and known the audience I could theorize a reasonable justification, but we really don't know what the NYT's justification is without the actual article. That said, I agree that NYT's amplification is a different factor of de-annonymizing his identity.
