What's the best data you've seen on masks and #SARSCOV2 transmission prevention?

Nearly all who now say cloth masks are effective..have no experience in this area. Dr. Lisa Brosseau has spent her career on this..worth listening to this interview. Her concern is that public health reversal, gives people false sense of security https://publichealth.uic.edu/news-stories/mask-orders-and-the-science-of-homemade-masks/ …

All good with wanting more evidence on masks—different types, source-control versus PPE—but I find it baffling that "false sense of security" which is *utterly evidence free and if anything has evidence against* is touted by experts who allegedly have high standards for evidence!

My main thing: can wearing a mask HURT you? No. Keep washing your hands, observing social distancing, etc. Masks may not have enough evidence of benefit, but the downsides of wearing them are few.

In my view, apples-to-apples, masks have more evidence than hand-washing at this point for this virus, but I agree that both are low-risk, high pay-off interventions. That's why I'm baffled by the false sense of security crowd.

"False sense of security" argument is paternalistic; devoid of data; largely harmful when we already have a cultural aversion to masking in parts of this country; certainly worth further study from behavioral economics side of things, but largely useless to guide strategy now.

Everything we know about human behavior (signaling, solidarity, stigma) argues for universal mask wearing, plus false sense of security has been claimed *so often* and researched so much and always found to be dwarf by safety gains. I'm so baffled by popularity of pop psychology!

You repeatedly claim safety gains on masks, but refuse to consider the views of experts in this exact field, who have studied this and come to a different conclusion. (btw..Fauci has is not an expert in the area of masks)

Oh, stop. I consider the views of tons of actual experts including from Hong Kong, Taiwan and South Korea (you know, actually successful countries with SARS experience?) who disagree with him and have published on this. PLUS, he is absolutely wrong on false sense of security.
