Wow. @NathanJRobinson is doubling down on comparing a black scholar to Charles Murray of Bell Curve, alleging a defense that the scholar never raised against Nathan's egregious mischaracterization of his paper—so bad that I don't think he read it at all. https://twitter.com/NathanJRobinson/status/1273677851104030722 …

How hard is it to admit that he didn't read the paper (if he did, I'm going to really wonder if he can understand what he's reading because the description of the paper he offers bears no resemblance to the actual paper) and apologize? Why double down on such a terrible argument?

Because when there is egregious mischaracterization of people—their research or views—the best course seems to be not to leave it just to them to have to defend themselves. (Though Omar is obvs more than capable). Can't do it always, but noticed this one.https://twitter.com/RexMarigold/status/1273703581351161856 …

I fear that Wasow decided he had to respond to such bad-faith arguments because Robinson has 64K followers, and can thus shape public perception of your research. However, it's anyone's guess how many of those 64K are bots. I'd bet a lot. Maybe

It may well be outstanding research. But it also might inspire errant conclusions about lessons for 2020.

It wouldn't make it bad research, though which is what Nathan claimed (or any of the other things he claimed about the paper that I still doubt he read). It would mean that people should read the papers they're talking about and look at what the evidence is for the moment.

He is the chief editor of a subscriber-funded political magazine that's run as a cooperative with the other magazine contributors & employees. His coworkers are the only people with the power to fire him. Can't call the manager on this one.
