The WHO is also, finally, finally, finally shifting. WHO, like the CDC, should quickly issue guidelines for best practices and sanitization. Time for them to step up and do what they are supposed to do, and can do.https://twitter.com/jeremyphoward/status/1246152974809915393 …

Once again, Dr. Fauci says that they did not advise masks earlier because "there was a paucity of equipment that our healthcare workers required." But we were told masks were unnecessary, even harmful. They forgot "a pandemic is a communication emergency".https://twitter.com/i/status/1275522333428645890 …

I don't live in the same universe as this CNN correspondent. Dr. Fauci admits they didn't recommend masks before—and even said they may harm, don't work—because of the shortage, and that's sign of a "best communicator? No, no, that's how you lose trust. https://twitter.com/joshscampbell/status/1275491561405546498 …

This is the craziest part. Letting a pandemic run wild in order to protect health care workers - the people who are going to have to deal with the wild pandemic... How did anyone ever think that made any sense?!?

Many (most?) people conflate PPE for medical workers with source control for the whole population. Pushing R below 1.0 with source control, even using “minimally effective” cloth masks, is for some reason a hard idea to spread.

Also, masks help with sensibly transitioning out of lockdown. Does anyone else get the impression that those most opposed to lockdown, are also most opposed to masks?

I imagine where we'd be if January and February were spent on a Manhattan Project to make disposable paper masks, then delivered for free, a box at a time, weekly, to every address receiving a census form

It’s common sense that masks protect healthcare workers and they also protect the general public. You only need to educate how to use it properly. I’ve been angry since Jan hearing repeatedly “masks cause more harm than benefit” BS. Lives could’ve been saved! Why took so long?!

Why did China’s Daigou (BBC report there are >2M worldwide) buy out huge quantities of PPE?~2.6 billion items, particularly N95 & surgical face-masks from Canada/US/Europe/Australia & NZ reserves to sell back 2
