Like condoms, masks fail when you don’t wear them properly. But condoms still work even when everyone else is stupid and don’t. Cloth masks, however, need everyone to wear them. ➡️ Masks for all. Pass it on. #Masks4All pic.twitter.com/CbEVoaqjzv

Not to mention that masks worn improperly, or masks worn by less than everyone, might have a meaningful effect on transmission. Mask absolutism driving me up the wall

I fail to imagine a single realistic circumstance in which “no mask” in the community is better than any kind of realistic mask wearing. I really thought hard about this and keep looking for examples. Even if worn incorrectly or even if you touch it, how is it worse than no mask?

Right. This group considered one such scenario (that strains credulity) where no masks would be better than >80% coverage. But even in this worst case situation 1-80% coverage would be better than nothing at all. https://twitter.com/aaronrichterman/status/1271838002311036928?s=21 …https://twitter.com/AaronRichterman/status/1271838002311036928 …

          1. Addressing this issue of whether mask wearers may actually be higher risk of infection (unlikely imo) was particularly interesting pic.twitter.com/4sudOhihVU

I read that paper, and thought the scenario wasn't realistic. Still was good to see a modeling. Self-infection? Already infected. Touching face? How can it be worse than touching without masks? Incorrect doffing? How could it be worse than no masks if just doffing is that loaded?
