Important new Beijing cluster. It's again centered in a food market. 517 workers tested, 45 are PCR positive—but no symptoms... yet. Hopefully Chinese scientists can share findings as this relates to many many important open questions on this disease.https://www.nytimes.com/2020/06/13/world/asia/beijing-market-coronavirus.html …

Yep we can be fairly certain that the cutting board or the (dead) salmon isn't the key issue when you have 10% positivity rate among the humans. The "imported salmon" emphasis sounds like panicky political rhetoric that will fade. There's a silent cluster.https://twitter.com/Undetermined_US/status/1271849358749646853 …

It has been reported that the virus was detected at a stall cutting board where salmon was being sold. That doesn't mean the salmon was the source (reportedly from Norway).

They never identified the source in Wuhan. All we know is that people contracted the virus after having congregated in a crowded close space with many people coming in and out.

I wonder about air circulation in these markets. Even if not a permanent enclosed building, could well be much less than "outdoors."

Seems logical. There are awnings and whatnot that obstruct air flow. People crowd in and share a small space where particles hang in the air. Seems different than say, the beach, in terms of air circulation.

You already have a lot of clusters in food markets in America Latina (Peru, Colombia, Mexico...).

So many cases in meat processing plants, too. Empirical evidence suggests that the virus spreads easier in cold indoor environments. This may be simply due to water droplet physics. Droplets evaporate slower in cold temperatures. I wonder if they also float in the air for longer.

You’ve noticed that too, huh? Maybe I’m just missing them, but I haven’t nearly enough good studies about the *physics* of transmission Seem to me understanding those details is the key to long term mitigation practices
