I haven’t had a landline telephone in maybe 15 years. Where do we now stand on them, as “adults” or whatever?

So far the most convincing arguments are: 1. They work during emergencies 2. They're good decoy numbers to get spam to stop playing on your cellphone

They do not necessarily work during emergencies! I kept one for an extra year (it was a copper line, so would work in emergencies). Then the phone company came and made it voice-over-internet (without telling me but I can tell!) and thus no point. Many "landlines" are just VOIP.

Wait, even the local telephone companies are doing VOIPs?!

For about a decade, and not telling people. Charging (usually elderly) folks tons of money while removing their copper lines and giving them VOIP instead. So yeah.

I am very into this. Going to check on my parents' situation, too. Wow.
