I haven’t had a landline telephone in maybe 15 years. Where do we now stand on them, as “adults” or whatever?

So far the most convincing arguments are: 1. They work during emergencies 2. They're good decoy numbers to get spam to stop playing on your cellphone

They do not necessarily work during emergencies! I kept one for an extra year (it was a copper line, so would work in emergencies). Then the phone company came and made it voice-over-internet (without telling me but I can tell!) and thus no point. Many "landlines" are just VOIP.

(And those usually have backup batteries so will work for awhile till the battery runs out... So check if it is actually a copper line).
