Here, I trace the 2019 outbreak in the Northeast, which killed 15. You’ll notice how it eerily predicts the current pandemic, though at a much small scale. People sheltering in their houses. Fear and misinformation spreading on social media. A terrifying, microscopic culprit.

What I realized while reporting is that both outbreaks are symptoms of environmental degradation and global warming. Along with forest fires, hurricane, floods, pestilence is part of our future. We are only beginning to grapple with this new epidemiological reality.
