I don't normally highlight these, but imagine what if, instead of writing maybe the earliest mainstream article explaining need to "flatten the curve" and also one on the need for masks due to asymptomatic spread, I had made a human mistake or two. There'd be packs of vultures.

I'm highlighting this one partly because, yeah, I'm sitting pretty comfortably on my own track record right now. But imagine what these packs of vultures would do if they found the slightest issue to peck at. I get these *all the time* and they don't even have a wound to peck at.

To be a woman in the public sphere is like this: everyday people are out to undermine your confidence and get you to give up, to tell you to sit it out. No track record can keep them off, and again, if heaven forbid there is a mistake (which happens!), they descend in packs.

And I don't have it worst! Read this on what black women in the public sphere routinely face. I usually get people to try to shut me up, but hers are not just about the usual death/rape threats, but specifically about violently destroying her brain.https://adanewmedia.org/2015/04/issue7-mcmillancottom/ …

Thank you! One big reason I can go occasionally go public like this is to remind people on behalf of those who cannot. I'm confident in my work, securely employed, and happy to stand on my record. But this stuff wears down people before they have a chance.https://twitter.com/kwerb/status/1270441377105694720 …

For most, it's a no win situation. You get undermined an unreasonable amount but if you highlight it, it looks whiny. If you ignore it, you get worn down. If you make a mistake, and a pack descends, you look defensive if you react. I can highlight because I don't have to care!
