Social media has reinvented the same editorial algorithm used by legacy media: if it bleeds, it leads. We need decentralized media, run by individual communities, in a not-for-profit way. If http://steemit.com , http://hive.blog , http://minds.com are any indication of how decentralized social networks will be, they are not any better than FB, Twitter, etc. and each introduces a number of new problems. Steem was taken over by one person!
