About the the risk of COVID from the protests. Please note that, to date, there are very few known cases of outdoor transmission at all, but crowding 100 people into an indoors space overnight? Yes, that's how you get a spike. Jails and detention, not protesting, is the big risk.https://twitter.com/nomoniker_/status/1267611747667640321 …

It's certainly a risk, and many epidemiologists have provided harm reduction advice—masks, drums instead of shouting, distance. I'll link to a thread where I add my advice on helmets and shatterproof goggles. Still, jails and detention are the real risk.https://twitter.com/MaureenDowdTwit/status/1267891869268226050 …

My thread with harm reduction advice on protesting during a pandemic and being near protests when police are behaving the way they are now. It's unconscionable to crowd people indoors right now simply because they're protesting or merely breaking curfew.https://twitter.com/zeynep/status/1266791481647534082 …

We could see a spike from outdoor protesting, especially with packed crowds, yelling—and more so if people aren't wearing masks. It *is* a risk. But, to date, outdoors has been very low risk. But we *know* for sure indoors (jails/detention) is a high risk.https://twitter.com/CulturalAsthma/status/1267893393402875908?s=20 …

Folks, please send me your stories! Did they pack people indoors after arresting them? Were you tear gassed especially at close quarters? Did they make you take your mask off? We should document this. I'll try to collate and share.https://twitter.com/boreazepam/status/1267893677109714948 …

Of course, as predicted, tons of people in my mentions are complaining to me about the lock-down rules. This is why I dislike quote-tweets. Folks, I've been arguing that parks and beaches should be open—with sensible guidelines—for months! Wrong target.

I've tried a good deal to say that much of the beach/park scolding was not evidence-based. It's also not a bad thing to change one's mind as evidence emerges but on this particular topic, I haven't just decided outdoors is less risk because of protests.https://twitter.com/zeynep/status/1251710115700490241 …

Yes, beach and parks are lower risk as long as people do not pack in transportation, restaurants or stores in the process.

Arrested in Dallas on Saturday. They kept about a dozen of us in a wagon for over an hour, half without A/C. When we got to the jail, the first question was if anyone had been exposed to COVID
