STOP THE IRAQ COMPARISONS. STOP. So many civilians—children, women, families—were gunned down by the US army *just in checkpoint shootings* that we don't have a full count. In 2007, not the worst year, US military counted 429 *civilians* it killed JUST IN CHECKPOINT SHOOTINGS. https://t.co/6b2JBqCckA

People can criticize US policing–which has been indeed further militarized with gear, training and mindset following the Iraq war—without these incoherent comparisons to the US occupation of Iraq. What's happening is terrible. Please *stop* making light of what happened in Iraq.

That's exactly why people should stop making these comparisons. Gunning down civilians every week, week after week, for years was exactly the behavior that was very much *acceptable* in that war, because we did it for years, to little accountability. https://twitter.com/angaidh_/status/1267106508048916481 …

But far far far worse *was* acceptable, routinely and without accountability. It's really not okay to convey any other impression given the devastating consequences of our indifference, to this day, to the reality. People should not be given a false impression.
