I'm agnostic on what the charges would be and would be okay with anything that would help deter, and there are laws on the books! Swatting used to be ignored, and seen as a prank but it is anything but just like this was anything but a minor verbal tussle.https://twitter.com/RyanRadia/status/1266099758772477957 …

Yes, the core issue is the racist police conduct that allows them to be weaponized against black people. In an ideal planet, that's addressed first. Until then, having a few district attorneys (who are often elected) acknowledge that fact would be good.https://twitter.com/privacylawyer/status/1266108128397078531 …

I'm not expecting DA's to start prosecuting this or— gasp—actually prosecute police "misconduct" which includes choking a man to death over seven minutes—torture and murder by any standard. But in that reality, I can't condemn this "mob". She's not "canceled" for a bad tweet.

I would avoid the use of the word 'mob' do describe actions that are legal.

The term you use in the piece ("swatting-adjacent") is apt. Years of imprisonment seem grossly excessive here, but why isn't the DA even exploring misdemeanor charges (potential $1,000 fine, community service, 1 year of probation)? OTOH, a guilty verdict might be hard to obtain.

It would be hard to make a charge stick -- fear is subjective & it's practically encouraged ("see something, say something") -- for 1 phone call. But a pattern, multiple calls like this, wld be another story. For her, specifically, I wouldn't be surprised if there are others.

I wonder if progressive Tiffany Cabán were Manhattan DA if she'd prosecute Amy Cooper. https://twitter.com/tiffany_caban/status/1265077064358658049 …pic.twitter.com/sgjVzef0GR

I'm glad you said it. I thought it, but didn't want to use the word swatting. But "swatting-adjacent"? Yeah.

Encapsulates my feelings perfectly. Mob justice is a problem but when the alternative is no justice I will take mob justice every time.

It's true she acted extremely poorly, I find it problematic that most of the takes on this incident ignore the fact that moments before this video was taken, he said "I'm going to do what I want, but you're not going to like it" and offered treats to her dog. Creepy as hell.

I thought it was a brilliant de-escalatory tactic to the problems of unleashed dogs, but for the sake of the argument, let's take your interpretation. She's annoyed; he's annoyed. Still only one side is attempting to swat the other. Without that part, yeah, it's not our business.
