You notice that when Facebook runs its TV ads, it for warm-and-fuzzy things like dog groups, kazoo enthusiasts, etc. It’s never the alt right red pill pushers or the antivaxxers, but that’s where the money is.

I’m finding that the awareness of social media combined with false news is new - a very new trend <5yrs - once people start growing up with it more we will see people being more cognizant of astroturfing/misinformation. our current generations are doomed though.
