Right, that's what I'm asking. Is it known that Facebook pixel will log IP and Facebook will allow targeting like that? I'm not asking if anyone knows this is a product on offer or known to be done? Not asking for the wildest theory. Is there an IP path?https://twitter.com/Bobhunt5/status/1263624098120433667 …

I live with a roommate, and we share one wifi network. If this were the case, I should expect to see some targeted ads that are aimed at her, and her at me, right? I haven't noticed that in my experience (though perhaps there's ways this mistargeting is avoided?)

of all the things ML can't do, differentiating individuals on a network seems like one it plausibly could do? could be even simpler, maybe it only learns to apply this when there's likely only one user on the network, or maybe only serves innocuous categories (coffee machines)

On the WCM side, I’ve seen content targeting/profiling done based on IP. But that’s within the site we were working on. I assume this could be done for targeted ads. I think your guess is most likely correct.

Advertisers doesn't know this information, but they can say show my ad to customers which interested in coffee products. Then, when you visit another brand's website which have Facebook Pixel. Facebook tags you as interested with coffee products. And shows the ads which matches.

I'm sure you thought about this but did you check this hypothesis with other searches and with WiFi turned on and off? If true should be easily reproducible

On Facebook they disclose and you have to turn off non Facebook activity tracking. But I don't think this stops that fingerprinting thing . Try standing for long in front of certain product in big shop you get and ad just like that

The whole online ads industry is BS. Most times I get ads to things I already bought or just searched without any intent on buying online.

It was a very very specific conversation, and I'm actually not in the market for coffee machines. And it was instant. Looked up, put phone down, turned on other machine, saw ad for other brand
