tbh if the 1918 strain was released today I don't know how bad it would be the H1N1 strains circulating today are not descended from the 1918 strain (at least not in terms of ; there is likely *some* level of cross-protection but how much is hard to say

that said it's also unclear how much more virulent 1918 flu would be with modern standard of care -some argue that the major killer was secondary bacterial pneumonia, which is straightforward to treat w antibiotics or it's the cytokine storm in which case we'd be fucked
